Traffic Building With Mouse Traps
Traffic building comes with creativity and work. One of the most powerful ways to attract and retain traffic is through word of mouth - or as it is known in the world of online marketing: “word of mouse”!
Word of mouse marketing is an incredible way to get your message out and spread your URL. People who tell others about a website, product, or service are usually considered a trusted reference or resource. They have a lot of credibility in their communities and people listen to what others in their niche have to say. Imagine how many people can be touched by one person who tells two more who tells three more and so on. Your advertising increases exponentially! Read the story »
Make Your Site Mobile - Friendly
I can pull up by the curb,
I can make it on the road,
Goin’ mobile
I can stop in any street
And talk with people that we meet
Goin’ mobile
Keep me moving
–”Going Mobile”, The Who
Pete Townsend’s song from the aborted Lifehouse project could now serve as the theme for smart traffic-pulling site design. If you’re not “going mobile” with your website, you could be losing a lot of traffic.
All of those smart phones are beginning to add up, people. And if you have a site that is rendering well for all of those Blackberries and iPhones, you’re missing out on a big chunk of traffic.
According to InformationWeek’s Erik Zeman, “New research shows that a good mobile Web site will extend the reach of your standard Web site (and brand) by as much as 13%. Maybe this thing called the ‘mobile Web’ could be useful after all.”
13% is a big deal. It’s a number that no one can really afford to ignore. That’s especially true when you look at the accelerating growth of web use via mobile device. We have every reason to expect that number to continue to grow.
At some point the phones will catch up to our PCs and there won’t be a huge need to offer a mobile-friendly design. Right now, however, it makes sense to take care of all of those mobile users wandering the highways and byways.
Fortunately, it doesn’t take too much to increase your reach and to be mobile-friendly. Mike Davidson outlines one approach here. It may seem a little involved at first, but it’s really a pretty simple fix once you see what he’s getting at. Those looking for a quick-fix can use Google Reader to make life easier for mobile users. Digital Inspiration calls it the “ten-second solution”. It might take a little longer than that, but not by much.
No matter how you do it, do it. You’d do more work for a lot less, right? 13% and growing, folks…
